Limerick is home to the famous Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, situated on the shannon. Visitors can sample what mediaeval Ireland was really like. The Folk Park adjoins the castle and is fun for both young and old. It shows the visitor what life was like in rural Ireland about 100 years ago. It contains thatched farm cottages and shops and real live animals. The smell of freshly baked bread fills the air and you can watch as blacksmiths demonstrate the craft of fitting horse shoes.
